THE AYURVEDIC
MASSAGE TECHNIQUES

In India and other Asian countries, massage is part of the routine and family traditions.
All oriental massage techniques are becoming more popular in the Netherlands and in other European countries.
The Ayurvedic massage techniques are also gaining in popularity.
They are pleasant, relaxing, give extra energy, remove toxins from the body and improve blood circulation. Anyone can be massaged, even babies and small children (Shantala massage).
The Ayurvedic massage techniques are based on the concepts of energy, the five elements, the three doshas (body mind-types), the nadis (meridians) and the marmas (pressure points).
The use of the most suitable massage oil (usually hot oil) is also important in the Ayurvedic tradition.

The most well-known traditional Ayurvedic massage techniques are:

- Indian head massage
- The Ayurvedic body massage
- The herbal massage
- The Marma massage
- The Garsham massage
- The Ayurvedische facelift massage
- The Ayurvedische footmassage (with the vital bowl)
- The Chakra massage
- The Udvartana massage

- The Ubtan massage
- Ayurvedische massage with gemstones
- The Shantala massage (for babies)
- The Shirodhara

Ayurveda has also massage forms that are more focused on our beauty and wellness, such as the herbal compress massage and the Ubtan massage.
