THE AYURVEDIC KITCHEN
|
 |
The Ayurvedic kitchen is an important part of the Ayurvedic health system.
The Ayurvedic kitchen is spicy but not hot.
It’s tasteful, healthy, has many dishes and the preparation of the food is easier than you think.
The Ayurvedic cooking system uses fresh ingredients, without chemical additives, like fruit, vegetables, cereals, nuts, milk, honey and many spices that help the digestion.
The Ayurvedic kitchen is very rich in recipes. It’s possible to prepare and cook both Eastern and Western dishes.
Ayurveda uses food as a tool for health. Ayurveda teaches us that our pharmacy is in the kitchen, but we must use all six tastes and the food must be fresh and without preservatives, flavours, etc.
According to Ayurveda there is a specific diet that is more suitable is for each body-mind type.
THE 6 TASTES
According to Ayurveda all that exists on earth is made with the 5 elements. The 5 elements are: ether, air, fire, water and earth.
The food that we see everyday on our table is made with the 5 elements and contains the 6 tastes. Ayurveda teaches us that the 6 tastes (sweet – salty – acid – bitter – spicy – astringent) must be available in every meal.

In many European kitchens we mostly use the tastes sweet and salty.
It’s not healthy to use only a few flavours and we can easily get sick. Each taste has a different effect on our bodies and mood. For example, you can become more alert after a coffee or more relaxed after a glass of warm milk.
The spicy food helps against colds, but if it’s too much we can get diarrhea and become nervous.
